John Kevin Temple Hometown: Wheaton, IL High School: Wheaton Central H.S. College: Northern Illinois University Favorite distance? Mile. It was the one distance that a normal gym student had to run as a time trial about every other year in gym class since I was about 7 years old. Also, when I ran track in high school, my final 1600 meters race, I just broke 5 minutes. I did not care that the average 1600 runner on my team ran at least 4:47, it was an accomplishment to me because I did this after only one indoor and two outdoor track seasons. Favorite race? That is a tough one. Probably the "Run For the Animals" in Wheaton. I have competed in either the 5K or the 10K race every year since 1993. It is like a homecoming race to me. So Kevin, is there anything else we should know? I have been running for about 15 years. My first three years of running, I did not run too much (usually no more than 35 miles in one given week). It was not until training for my first cross country season at NIU, fall of 1992, that I started to pick up my mileage. I took about one year off of running (fall 1994 - fall 1995) because of a foot injury. When I started to run again, I broke all of my previous records except for my 5K PR (16:08 on the roads; fall 1993). My 2005 Goal - Run faster than 4:30 in the mile (or mile equivalent) on the track.
